We stood on a zig-zag bridge and watched ghost koi glide beneath still water.

We were each afraid, I think. A great leap into the unknown.

We found ourselves overlooking a zen garden. Impeccably raked gravel, pitted stone sentinals. A wedding party.

I imagined walking around the stones, ghost-like, without disturbing the gravel.

Maybe, just once, I wanted to leave tracks. To not be a ghost anymore.

None of my family could be at the wedding. No best man either - my best friend died two decades ago, but I still mourned him.
