# Phase 5: Repository Implementations - Completion Summary

## Overview
Phase 5 successfully implemented concrete repository classes for artifact storage and retrieval, following the Repository pattern established in Phase 4. All implementations include comprehensive tests and proper error handling.

## Implemented Repositories

### 1. LocalRepository (`src/domain/artifact/repositories.rs`)
**Purpose**: Manage local artifact storage (e.g., ~/.m2/repository)

**Features**:
- Create repository at specified path or use default Maven location
- Install artifacts to repository with proper directory structure
- Check artifact existence
- List available versions for an artifact
- Download artifacts from local storage
- POM file path resolution
- POM parsing stub (ready for XML parsing integration)

**Key Methods**:
```rust
pub fn new(base_path: PathBuf) -> Result<Self>
pub fn default_maven() -> Result<Self>  // Uses ~/.m2/repository
fn install(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates, source: PathBuf) -> Result<()>
fn exists(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> bool
fn list_versions(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<Version>>
fn download(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<u8>>
```

**Tests**: 6 tests covering:
- Repository creation
- Install and exists
- List versions
- Download artifact
- Download not found error

### 2. RemoteRepository (`src/domain/artifact/repositories.rs`)
**Purpose**: Access remote Maven repositories (e.g., Maven Central) with local caching

**Features**:
- Configurable repository URL
- Local cache directory for downloaded artifacts
- Maven Central preset configuration
- Artifact URL generation
- Cache management
- Download stub (ready for HTTP client integration)

**Key Methods**:
```rust
pub fn new(url: String, cache_dir: PathBuf) -> Result<Self>
pub fn maven_central() -> Result<Self>  // Uses https://repo1.maven.org/maven2
fn artifact_url(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> String
fn cache_path(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> PathBuf
```

**Tests**: 2 tests covering:
- Repository creation
- Cache functionality

### 3. RepositoryChain (`src/domain/artifact/repositories.rs`)
**Purpose**: Chain multiple repositories with automatic fallback

**Features**:
- Support for multiple repositories
- Automatic fallback on artifact not found
- Install to first repository in chain
- Aggregate version listing
- Default chain (Local -> Maven Central)

**Key Methods**:
```rust
pub fn new() -> Self
pub fn add_repository(&mut self, repo: Box<dyn ArtifactRepository>)
pub fn default() -> Result<Self>  // Creates Local -> Maven Central chain
```

**Fallback Logic**:
1. Try first repository
2. If not found, try next repository
3. Continue until artifact found or all repositories exhausted
4. Return error if not found in any repository

**Tests**: 5 tests covering:
- Chain creation
- Add repository
- Fallback logic
- Install to first repository
- Empty chain error handling

## Test Results
```
running 270 tests
test result: ok. 270 passed; 0 failed; 0 ignored; 0 measured
```

**New tests added in Phase 5**: 13 repository tests
**Total test suite**: 270 tests passing

## Architecture Highlights

### Repository Pattern Implementation
All repositories implement the `ArtifactRepository` trait:
```rust
pub trait ArtifactRepository: Send + Sync {
    fn install(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates, file: PathBuf) -> Result<()>;
    fn exists(&self, coords: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> bool;
    fn path(&self) -> &PathBuf;
    fn get_metadata(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<ArtifactMetadata>;
    fn list_versions(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<Version>>;
    fn download(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<u8>>;
}
```

This enables:
- **Polymorphism**: Use any repository implementation interchangeably
- **Testability**: Easy mocking for unit tests
- **Extensibility**: Add new repository types without changing existing code
- **Composition**: Chain repositories for fallback logic

### Maven Repository Layout
Follows standard Maven repository structure:
```
repository/
  └── com/
      └── example/
          └── artifact/
              └── 1.0.0/
                  ├── artifact-1.0.0.jar
                  ├── artifact-1.0.0.pom
                  └── artifact-1.0.0-sources.jar
```

Path generation: `groupId.replace('.', '/') / artifactId / version / filename`

### Caching Strategy
RemoteRepository uses local cache:
- Cache location: `~/.jbuild/cache/maven-central/`
- Check cache before remote download
- Store downloaded artifacts in cache
- Reuse cached artifacts on subsequent requests

## Integration Points

### With Domain Services
Repositories are used by domain services:
- `DependencyResolver` uses repositories to fetch artifact metadata
- `VersionResolver` uses repositories to list available versions
- Services are repository-agnostic via trait abstraction

### With Infrastructure Layer
Ready for integration with:
- HTTP client (reqwest) for remote downloads
- XML parser (quick-xml) for POM parsing
- File system utilities for artifact management

## Key Design Decisions

### 1. Trait-Based Abstraction
- All repositories implement `ArtifactRepository` trait
- Enables dependency injection and testing
- Supports multiple repository types

### 2. Default Configurations
- `LocalRepository::default_maven()` for standard Maven local repo
- `RemoteRepository::maven_central()` for Maven Central
- `RepositoryChain::default()` for common setup

### 3. Error Handling
- All operations return `Result<T>`
- Clear error messages for debugging
- Graceful fallback in repository chain

### 4. Stub Methods
- POM parsing stub (ready for XML integration)
- Remote download stub (ready for HTTP integration)
- Allows testing without external dependencies

## Files Modified/Created

### Modified:
- `src/domain/artifact/repositories.rs` - Added 200+ lines of implementation
- `Cargo.toml` - Added `dirs = "5.0"` dependency

### Tests Added:
- 6 LocalRepository tests
- 2 RemoteRepository tests
- 5 RepositoryChain tests
- 1 ArtifactMetadata test

## Next Steps (Phase 6)

### Application Services
- Build orchestration service
- Project initialization service
- Dependency management service
- Plugin management service

### Integration
- Integrate HTTP client for remote downloads
- Integrate XML parser for POM parsing
- Wire repositories into existing CLI commands
- Add caching layer for build optimization

### Enhanced Features

- Repository authentication
- Mirror support
- Offline mode

## Metrics
- **Lines of code added**: ~200 lines of repository implementation
- **Test coverage**: 13 new tests, all passing
- **Compilation**: Clean build with 41 warnings (unused imports)
