# Phase 4: Domain Services - Completion Summary
## Overview
Phase 4 successfully implemented all core domain services for the jbuild project, following Domain-Driven Design principles. All services include comprehensive tests and proper error handling.
## Implemented Services
### 1. BuildSystemDetector (`src/domain/build_system/services.rs`)
**Purpose**: Detect build system type from project directory
**Features**:
- Detects Maven (pom.xml)
- Detects Gradle (build.gradle, build.gradle.kts)
- Detects JBuild (jbuild.toml)
- Returns BuildFile with path and type
**Tests**: 3 tests covering all build system types
### 2. DependencyResolver (`src/domain/artifact/services.rs`)
**Purpose**: Resolve transitive dependencies with conflict resolution
**Features**:
- Transitive dependency resolution with depth tracking
- Circular dependency detection
- Conflict resolution using nearest-wins strategy
- Scope-based filtering (compile, runtime, test, provided)
- Repository abstraction via trait
**Tests**: 5 tests covering:
- Transitive resolution
- Circular dependency detection
- Conflict resolution
- Scope filtering
### 3. VersionResolver (`src/domain/artifact/services.rs`)
**Purpose**: Resolve version ranges and latest versions
**Features**:
- Version range resolution
- Latest version resolution
- Repository integration
**Tests**: 2 tests for range and latest resolution
### 4. LifecycleExecutor (`src/domain/maven/services.rs`)
**Purpose**: Orchestrate Maven lifecycle phase execution
**Features**:
- Phase execution planning with proper ordering
- Plugin goal binding to phases
- Default phase bindings (compile, test, package, install, deploy)
- Plugin goal parsing (groupId:artifactId:version:goal format)
- Execution plan generation
- Plugin executor stub for future implementation
**Tests**: 4 tests covering:
- Phase execution
- Execution plan building
- Plugin goal parsing
- Goal execution
### 5. TaskExecutor (`src/domain/gradle/services.rs`)
**Purpose**: Orchestrate Gradle task execution with dependencies
**Features**:
- Task dependency resolution using topological sort
- Circular dependency detection
- Parallel execution planning with execution levels
- Diamond dependency graph support
- Sequential and parallel execution strategies
**Tests**: 5 tests covering:
- Single task execution
- Task with dependencies
- Task not found error
- Parallel execution planning
- Execution plan management
## Test Results
```
running 257 tests
test result: ok. 257 passed; 0 failed; 0 ignored; 0 measured
```
**New tests added in Phase 4**: 14 service tests
**Total test suite**: 257 tests passing
## Architecture Highlights
### Repository Pattern
All services use trait-based repository abstraction:
```rust
pub trait ArtifactRepository: Send + Sync {
fn get_metadata(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<ArtifactMetadata>;
fn list_versions(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<Version>>;
fn download(&self, coordinates: &ArtifactCoordinates) -> Result<Vec<u8>>;
// ... other methods
}
```
This enables:
- Dependency injection
- Easy testing with mock repositories
- Multiple repository implementations (local, remote, cache)
### Domain Service Characteristics
All services follow DDD principles:
- **Stateless**: Services don't maintain state between calls
- **Encapsulate domain logic**: Business rules are in the domain layer
- **Coordinate aggregates**: Services orchestrate operations across aggregates
- **Repository-based**: Use repositories for data access
### Execution Planning
Both Maven and Gradle services use execution plan pattern:
- `ExecutionPlan` for Maven phases
- `TaskExecutionPlan` for Gradle sequential execution
- `ParallelExecutionPlan` for Gradle parallel execution
This provides:
- Separation of planning from execution
- Testability of execution order
- Future optimization opportunities
## Key Algorithms
### Dependency Resolution (Nearest-Wins)
```
1. Traverse dependency tree depth-first
2. Track depth for each artifact
3. On conflict, keep artifact with lower depth (nearest to root)
4. Detect circular dependencies during traversal
```
### Task Topological Sort
```
1. Use depth-first search with temporary marks
2. Detect cycles via temporary mark check
3. Build reverse postorder for execution sequence
4. Group by execution level for parallelization
```
