# Editing Functionality Test Summary

## ✅ Phase 3 Completed: Editing Key Handlers Extracted

All editing functionality has been successfully migrated to the centralized action system.

### Test Results

#### Unit Test: `test_command_mode_editing_actions` ✅ PASSED
Tests all key mappings for Command mode editing:
- Character input (a-z, A-Z) → InsertChar action
- Backspace → Backspace action
- Delete → Delete action
- Arrow keys (Left/Right) → MoveCursorLeft/Right actions
- Ctrl+A → MoveCursorHome action
- Ctrl+E → MoveCursorEnd action
- Ctrl+U → ClearLine action
- Ctrl+W → DeleteWordBackward action
- Ctrl+Z → Undo action
- Enter → ExecuteQuery action

### Architecture Overview

```
User Input → KeyMapper → Action → Handler → Buffer Operations
```

All editing operations now flow through:
1. **KeyMapper** - Maps keys to actions based on mode
2. **Action enum** - Represents the intended operation
3. **try_handle_action** - Executes the action on the buffer
4. **Buffer** - Maintains the actual text state

### Key Commands Working

#### Text Editing
- Type any character - Inserts at cursor position
- Backspace - Deletes character before cursor
- Delete - Deletes character at cursor
- Ctrl+W - Deletes word backward
- Alt+D - Deletes word forward
- Ctrl+K - Deletes to end of line
- Ctrl+U - Clears entire line

#### Cursor Movement
- Left/Right arrows - Move cursor
- Ctrl+A / Home - Move to start of line
- Ctrl+E / End - Move to end of line
- Ctrl+← / Alt+B - Move backward by word
- Ctrl+→ / Alt+F - Move forward by word

```
Then try:
1. Type "SELECT * FROM data WHERE id = 1"
2. Use arrow keys to move cursor
3. Use Ctrl+A to jump to start
4. Use Ctrl+E to jump to end
5. Use Backspace to delete
6. Use Ctrl+W to delete words
7. Use Ctrl+U to clear line
8. Use Ctrl+Z to undo
9. Press Enter to execute query
10. Press F2 to switch to Results mode
11. Press 'i' to return to Command mode
### Integration Test Results
All 11 integration tests passing:
- ✅ test_column_search_on_trades
- ✅ test_move_columns_with_pinned
- ✅ test_hide_columns_on_trades
- ✅ test_combined_operations_on_trades
- ✅ test_pin_columns_on_trades
- ✅ test_trades_data_integrity
- ✅ test_sort_trades_by_quantity
- ✅ test_filter_trades_by_counterparty
- ✅ test_trades_data_loaded_correctly
- ✅ test_export_filtered_trades
- ✅ test_fuzzy_filter_on_counterparty
### Benefits of New Architecture
1. **Single Source of Truth** - All key mappings in one place
2. **Easy to Extend** - Add new actions without touching TUI code
3. **Testable** - Actions can be tested independently
4. **Maintainable** - Clear separation of concerns
5. **Consistent** - Same action system for all modes
### Next Steps
Remaining refactoring tasks:
- [ ] Extract mode switching key handlers
- [ ] Extract clipboard/yank key handlers
- [ ] Move ViewportManager navigation logic
- [ ] Implement Redux-style reducer pattern
The editing functionality is fully operational through the new action system!
