Variants

Utf8

Ship the vault string’s UTF-8 bytes verbatim. Tokens, passwords, PEM.

Hex

The vault string is hex; ship the decoded bytes. Use for binary key material — e.g. a raw Ed25519 key, which must land as exactly 32 bytes.
