Common cache trait for all backend implementations

This trait defines the minimal interface required for a cache backend. All operations are async and return anyhow::Result for flexible error handling.

§Binary Safety

The trait uses Vec<u8> for values to support any serialization format (JSON, MessagePack, Protocol Buffers, etc.). This keeps the cache layer agnostic to the data format.

§TTL Behavior

All cache entries must support time-to-live (TTL) expiration. A TTL of 0 should be treated as “use backend default” or “no expiration” depending on the implementation.

Required Methods§

Source

fn get<'life0, 'life1, 'async_trait>( &'life0 self, key: &'life1 str, ) -> Pin<Box<dyn Future<Output = Result<Option<Vec<u8>>>> + Send + 'async_trait>>
where Self: 'async_trait, 'life0: 'async_trait, 'life1: 'async_trait,

Retrieve a value from cache by key

Returns Ok(Some(value)) if found, Ok(None) if not found or expired, or Err on connection/IO errors.

Source

fn set<'life0, 'life1, 'life2, 'async_trait>( &'life0 self, key: &'life1 str, value: &'life2 [u8], ttl_seconds: u64, ) -> Pin<Box<dyn Future<Output = Result<()>> + Send + 'async_trait>>
where Self: 'async_trait, 'life0: 'async_trait, 'life1: 'async_trait, 'life2: 'async_trait,

Store a value in cache with TTL

§Parameters
  • key: Cache key (will be prefixed by implementation)
  • value: Binary data to store
  • ttl_seconds: Time-to-live in seconds (0 = backend default)
Source

fn delete<'life0, 'life1, 'async_trait>( &'life0 self, key: &'life1 str, ) -> Pin<Box<dyn Future<Output = Result<()>> + Send + 'async_trait>>
where Self: 'async_trait, 'life0: 'async_trait, 'life1: 'async_trait,

Delete a value from cache

Returns Ok(()) regardless of whether the key existed.

Source

fn exists<'life0, 'life1, 'async_trait>( &'life0 self, key: &'life1 str, ) -> Pin<Box<dyn Future<Output = Result<bool>> + Send + 'async_trait>>
where Self: 'async_trait, 'life0: 'async_trait, 'life1: 'async_trait,

Check if a key exists in cache

Returns true if the key exists and has not expired.
