Variants

Fresh

Pin is a SHA and matches the current MDL SHA (exact or abbreviated prefix).

Stale

Pin is a SHA but the MDL has since changed — ground truth may have rotted.

Unpinned

Pin is symbolic (not a SHA), so it can’t be checked; stamp it to start tracking.
