Extends

The commitment matches the key I hold at prev_epoch — this rotation extends my chain; adopt it.

Gap

prev_epoch is higher than the key I hold — I missed a rotation; fetch the gap first, don’t adopt yet.

Fork

The commitment doesn’t match at the same epoch — a fork or garbage.
