Why a genuine-EOSE read failed — callers that retry must not treat a burned deadline like an AUTH-gate CLOSED (the retry exists for the latter; repeating the former doubles a dead relay’s cost).

The deadline elapsed without an EOSE.

No usable connection (lookup/send failure, shutdown, stream end).
