Where the bytes of a document come from.

A document is not an image with a different media type, which is why it has its own source: every form states the media type, including the referenced one. A provider needs it — Bedrock wants a format enum, Anthropic wants a document block, OpenAI wants a data URI with the type in it — and guessing it from a URL’s suffix is how a PDF ends up announced as a PNG.

Variants (Non-exhaustive)

Non-exhaustive enums could have additional variants added in future. Therefore, when matching against variants of non-exhaustive enums, an extra wildcard arm must be added to account for any future variants.

Url

A URL the provider fetches itself.

Fields

IANA media type of what the URL serves, e.g. "application/pdf". Stated rather than derived from the path.

Base64

Base64-encoded bytes carried inline.
