The transaction isolation level requested when beginning a transaction through a Transaction Manager request (MS-TDS 2.2.6.9).

Any level other than Unspecified is a session setting, like SET TRANSACTION ISOLATION LEVEL: it stays in effect after the transaction ends, for later transactions and for statements outside any transaction.

Variants

Unspecified = 0

Keep the session’s current isolation level (“No isolation level change requested. Use current.”, MS-TDS 2.2.6.9). That is READ COMMITTED only on a session that never set another level: after a SERIALIZABLE transaction, an Unspecified one is SERIALIZABLE too.

ReadUncommitted = 1

READ UNCOMMITTED.
