What the complete catalogue can establish about one certificate hint. Matching a hint never authenticates that certificate or its path.

No certificate answers the complete hint, with no unreadable SKI gap.

Exactly one certificate answers the complete hint.

Ambiguous

More than one certificate answers the complete hint; no candidate chosen.

§

Unreadable

An SKI value could not be read, so uniqueness/absence is unestablished. Original diagnostics are retained by Directory::unreadable_identifiers.
