A search result from the memory index.

Represents a chunk of text from a source file that matched a query. The rank field is negative, with more negative values indicating better matches. This convention is consistent across FTS5 (where rank is natively negative), RRF fusion, and hybrid search.

Fields

source: String

Source file the chunk came from (e.g. "SOUL.md", "memory/2026-03-15.md").

text: String

The matching text chunk.

line_start: usize

Starting line number (1-indexed) in the source file.

line_end: usize

Ending line number in the source file.

rank: f64

Rank score — more negative = better match.

For FTS5-only search this is the raw BM25 score adjusted for temporal decay. For hybrid search this is the negative RRF score after decay and MMR.
