See §7.27.7 of XSL with the additional value of page. The defined value for the style:writing-mode attribute is page: writing mode is inherited from the page that contains the element where this attribute appears.

The values of the style:writing-mode attribute are lr-tb, rl-tb, tb-rl, tb-lr, lr, rl, tb or page.
