What a controlled run should do at the next file boundary.

Asked between files, never inside one: a file half-written into the index is a file whose hash must not be committed, and the boundary is the one point in the loop where that cannot be true.

Run

Keep going.

Pause

Hold here, and ask again shortly.

Yield

Stop here and keep what is done. The run reports what it did not reach, and asking again continues from there — the same answer a time budget gives. This is how the watcher’s catch-up steps aside for a request that arrived while it was working.

Stop

Give up, and undo what this run embedded.
