§OBJSPEC

Object Specifier

Text string that has an internal format and that is used to point to a specific object instance.

§Format

The string is formed out of a sequence of formatted substrings, each specifying an object’s type, and name. The substring format has the following four parts:

  1. Object Type
  2. Colon Character ‘:’
  3. Object Name
  4. Greater-Than Symbol ‘>’

The Object Type may be ommitted (along with the Colon Character), if it is not necessary to uniquely identify an object. The final Greater-Than Symbol is optional.

TODO: Implement format restrictions.
