Variants

Rasterize(Aggregator)

Assign each point to its nearest grid cell, then aggregate.

Conservative

Area-weighted conservative resampling (axis-aligned approximation).

For axis-aligned grids this reduces to count-weighted rasterization, preserving the total integral of the scattered data.
