RcRefCellAccess

Struct RcRefCellAccess

Source
pub struct RcRefCellAccess<T> { /* private fields */ }
Expand description

Lock access implementation for Rc<RefCell>

§RefCell Semantics

RefCell<T> provides interior mutability with runtime borrow checking:

  • Multiple immutable borrows are allowed simultaneously
  • Only one mutable borrow is allowed at a time
  • Borrows are checked at runtime (will panic if violated)
  • NOT thread-safe - use only in single-threaded contexts

§Cloning Behavior

Like ArcMutexAccess and ArcRwLockAccess, this struct only contains PhantomData<T>. Cloning is a zero-cost operation - no data is copied.

§Rc vs Arc

  • Rc<RefCell<T>>: Single-threaded, lower overhead, no atomic operations
  • Arc<Mutex<T>>: Multi-threaded, thread-safe, atomic reference counting

Use RcRefCellAccess when:

  • Working in single-threaded context
  • Want lower overhead than Arc/Mutex
  • Don’t need thread safety

§Example

use std::rc::Rc;
use std::cell::RefCell;
use rust_key_paths::lock::{LockKp, RcRefCellAccess};
use rust_key_paths::Kp;

#[derive(Clone)]
struct Root {
    data: Rc<RefCell<Inner>>,
}

struct Inner {
    value: String,
}

let lock_kp = LockKp::new(
    Kp::new(|r: &Root| Some(&r.data), |r: &mut Root| Some(&mut r.data)),
    RcRefCellAccess::new(),
    Kp::new(|i: &Inner| Some(&i.value), |i: &mut Inner| Some(&mut i.value)),
);
