Compress

Enum Compress

Source
pub enum Compress {
    None,
    Zlib,
    ZlibGnu,
    Zstd,
}
Expand description

How an ELF file stores its debug sections.

A debug section is much larger than the code it describes and is read by a debugger rather than by the program, so it can be stored compressed and unpacked by whatever reads it. A section that would come out no smaller is left as it is, the way gas leaves one.

Variants§

§

None

As they are.

§

Zlib

-gz=zlib: the section keeps its name, gains SHF_COMPRESSED, and starts with an Elf_Chdr saying it is zlib and how large it was.

§

ZlibGnu

-gz=zlib-gnu: the older layout, where .debug_info becomes .zdebug_info and starts with ZLIB and its size as eight big endian bytes.

§

Zstd

-gz=zstd: as Zlib, with the Elf_Chdr saying zstd and a zstd frame after it.
