UpdateError

Enum UpdateError

Source
#[non_exhaustive]
pub enum UpdateError {
Show 13 variants Provider(ProviderError), NoMatchingAsset { target: String, }, MissingSignature { asset: String, }, BadSignature { asset: String, }, BadChecksum { asset: String, }, SelfTestFailed, SwapFailed(String), NoReleaseSource, NoPublicKey, DowngradeRefused { target: Version, current: Version, }, Archive(String), Pattern(String), Io(Arc<Error>),
}
Expand description

Every failure mode the self-update flow can surface.

Clone is derived so callers can route errors through retry policies or embed them in progress events without losing the underlying io::Error. The Io variant wraps in Arc — same pattern as rtb-forge::ProviderError and rtb-credentials::CredentialError.

Variants (Non-exhaustive)§

This enum is marked as non-exhaustive
Non-exhaustive enums could have additional variants added in future. Therefore, when matching against variants of non-exhaustive enums, an extra wildcard arm must be added to account for any future variants.
§

Provider(ProviderError)

The upstream rtb_forge::ProviderError surfaced a failure.

§

NoMatchingAsset

No asset on the release matched the host platform.

Fields

§target: String

The host target triple we tried to match.

§

MissingSignature

Required signature file was absent from the release.

Fields

§asset: String

The asset filename we looked for a signature for.

§

BadSignature

Ed25519 signature did not verify against any trusted public key.

Fields

§asset: String

The asset filename whose signature failed.

§

BadChecksum

SHA-256 checksum did not match the checksums asset.

Fields

§asset: String

The asset filename whose checksum failed.

§

SelfTestFailed

The staged binary refused --version (or did not match the release tag). Swap is refused.

§

SwapFailed(String)

self-replace failed to swap.

§

NoReleaseSource

ToolMetadata::release_source is None — the tool has not been configured for self-update.

§

NoPublicKey

ToolMetadata::update_public_keys is empty — signatures cannot be verified so updates are refused as a security policy.

§

DowngradeRefused

The caller asked for a downgrade (target < current) without --force. Guards against a bad --to value turning into a permanent regression.

Fields

§target: Version

The version the caller requested.

§current: Version

The version currently installed.

§

Archive(String)

Archive extraction failed. Includes tar/gzip errors.

§

Pattern(String)

Asset pattern had a {version} placeholder but no value to fill, or matched zero assets.

§

Io(Arc<Error>)

I/O error during cache-dir or swap step.
