Fail behavior for an external hook when the command times out, errors, exits non-zero, or returns unparseable output.

Variants

Open

Treat failures as HookAction::Continue — same as today. Use for notification hooks (PostToolCall, SessionStart, etc.).

Closed

Treat failures as a blocking decision:

• PreToolCall, UserPromptSubmit, PermissionRequest → Error(reason)
• All other events → Continue (Closed is a no-op for notifications).
