The default: no credential is accepted, and no scope is ever held.

The _ => arm is the whole design. A header this does not recognise, a header that is absent, and a header that is malformed all reach the same place, because a half-check here would be a credential check that is wrong in a way nobody can see. The future is already resolved, so awaiting it costs a poll and nothing else.
