pub const EXACT_BUDGET_FACTOR: usize = 3;Expand description
The exact-product stage’s iteration budget once the continuation has
already answered with a tight S point: EXACT_BUDGET_FACTOR times the
iterations the continuation spent, never below EXACT_BUDGET_FLOOR.
With an answer in hand, the exact stage is a second opinion: it can only
change the report by converging to a strictly lower S point (a different
branch, eq_split’s global optimum or MacMPEC’s water-net). Run in
full it was 55% of every iteration POUNCE spent on MacMPEC, most of it
grinding to max_iter on models the continuation had already solved
(pack-comp1-32: 3000 of 3327). Every exact-stage answer that changed a
MacMPEC outcome took at most 2.5 times the continuation’s iterations
(water-net, 470 against 189), so the factor leaves it room.
