Why grep rejected a pattern.

Callers surface each of these as a loud tool error — never a silent empty hit list, which the model would read as “never said” — matching the search/peek discipline.

Variants

EmptyPattern

The pattern was empty; it would match every entry, which can only mislead.

PatternTooLong

The pattern exceeded MAX_PATTERN_CHARS.

InvalidPattern(String)

The pattern failed to compile — bad syntax, or a compiled program over the size cap. Carries the engine’s own message so the model can fix the pattern.
