Variants

Pending

Persisted locally; not yet handed to the transport layer.

Sent

Sent on the wire; awaiting recipient ack.

Delivered

Recipient confirmed receipt.

Read

Recipient marked the message as read.

Failed

Send / delivery failed permanently.
