The payload is UTF-8 text such as JSON, lnurl, or another payment-specific descriptor. If you need to transmit binary payloads, encode them (for example base64) before wrapping in PaymentEndpointPayload. Public storage helpers reject payloads larger than PAYMENT_ENDPOINT_PAYLOAD_MAX_BYTES.
