Variants

Fast

The production point (default): the reduced search ladders — a 12 MP 8-bit still in seconds single-threaded, about a second on 8 threads.

Balanced

A fuller search (rect partitions, refined deblock, fuller CDEF / restoration sweeps): roughly 2.5 × the wall clock for a small rate gain.

Thorough

The exhaustive search with every election: minutes per 12 MP picture.
