Operational failure answering a composed query or building a prim index.

Recoverable composition problems are CompositionDiagnostic diagnostics collected on the side (Stage::composition_errors); this type carries only operational failures, at most citing a diagnostic as context (IncompleteClipManifest). Every variant boxes its payload so the error arm stays pointer-sized on the query paths that return it constantly.

Variants (Non-exhaustive)

Non-exhaustive enums could have additional variants added in future. Therefore, when matching against variants of non-exhaustive enums, an extra wildcard arm must be added to account for any future variants.

Data(Box<DataError>)

A layer backend failed to decode an authored field value.

Path(Box<PathParseError>)

A recombined path string failed validation.

Cast(Box<CastError>)

A composed metadata value does not hold the type the query requires.

Edit(Box<EditError>)

Synthesizing an in-memory layer (a generated clip manifest) failed.

IncompleteClipManifest(Box<IncompleteClipManifest>)

A clip the schedule names could not be read, so a complete manifest cannot be generated.

ClipLoad(Box<ClipLoad>)

A value-clip layer demanded during value resolution failed to load.
