Outcome of evaluating one or more atomic actions.

Ordering is by strictness: Allow < Defer < Ask < Deny. When several atomic actions are combined, the strictest wins (docs/POLICY.md §4).

Variants (Non-exhaustive)

Non-exhaustive enums could have additional variants added in future. Therefore, when matching against variants of non-exhaustive enums, an extra wildcard arm must be added to account for any future variants.

Allow

The action may run.

Ask

A person must decide; the host prompts or blocks.

Deny

The action is blocked.

Defer

No objection and no approval: the agent’s own permission flow decides (ADR-025). Declared last so the other variants keep their discriminants.
