Fetches only the state of each reference (an issue or a pull request),
one entry per refs in the same order, None for one GitHub can’t find.
The shallow recheck a cached copy’s state is validated with (#2041): the
same aliased batching as fetch_items but with no text, so it is the
cheapest way to learn whether a cached item was closed or reopened since.
