Variants deliberately reveal few details: an error message must not give an adversary another bit of information about precisely which check failed or at which byte.

Authentication

Authentication failed: AEAD tag, MAC, or slot commitment. One variant for all three cases, deliberately.

BadSignature

The signature is invalid or noncanonical.

BadLength

Input or output length violates the contract.

TreeMismatch

Data does not match the tree root.

IndexOutOfRange

Access outside the tree.

BadKey

The key is not a valid curve point or is forbidden (small order).

UnsupportedAlgorithm

This client build does not support the algorithm identifier.
