The mode of a lock acquisition or hold.

Shared holds coexist with other Shared holds; Exclusive excludes everything. See the module docs for why there is deliberately no Update mode.

Variants

Shared

Coexists with other Shared holds (foreign-key parent protection, DML transactions under the schema barrier).

Exclusive

Excludes every other mode (SELECT ... FOR UPDATE row locks, unique-constraint probes, sequence allocation, DDL barriers).
