Variants

Ed25519 = 1

32-byte raw Ed25519 public key.

DidKey = 2

did:key: multibase-encoded key material (the did:key: scheme prefix is stripped — the payload is a multibase string, typically base58btc starting with 'z'). Validated as non-empty printable ASCII so binary garbage can’t masquerade as a DID (see Identity::is_valid).

Opaque = 3

Arbitrary producer-defined bytes.
