Where a backend’s traffic terminates. trust_destination says this in prose for humans; this says it in a form callers can branch on, so disclosure decisions never depend on matching English strings that a later wording change would silently break.

OnMachine

Terminates on this machine: direct sockets, or a local child process.

OffMachine

Reaches a third party, or a host that cannot be proven to be loopback. Configured-endpoint backends land here even when the operator points them at localhost — over-disclosing is the safe direction to err.
