A blank line the source holds beyond the one that separates two blocks: K blank lines between two blocks are one separator and K − 1 of these. Before a document’s first block, at the start or end of a block quote, alert, HTML container, or container directive, and after a document’s last line, each blank line is one. Source: a line holding only whitespace and its containers’ > markers.
