When an LLM decides to use a tool, it returns a ToolCall containing the tool ID, type, and the function to call with its arguments.

Fields

id: String

Unique identifier for this tool call.

tool_type: String

The type of tool (always “function” for now).

function: FunctionCall

The function call details.
