Variants

Auto

Extractive embedding ranking when the engine is available, else truncate. The default — strictly better than truncation, and cache-safe via the per-content memo in crate::proxy::prose_ranker.

Extractive

Same engine path as Auto (kept distinct so an operator can express intent / so a future “require engine” semantic has a name).

Truncate

Original deterministic FIFO squeeze; never touches the embedding engine.
