Row encoding strategy for join state (F057).
Controls how join rows are serialized for storage. The encoding choice affects the tradeoff between memory usage and CPU access speed.
Variants§
Compact
Compact encoding using Arrow IPC format.
- Smaller memory footprint
- Higher CPU decode cost per access
- Best when: state exceeds memory, disk spills frequent
CpuFriendly
CPU-friendly encoding with inlined primitive values.
- Larger memory footprint (~20-40% more)
- Faster access (~30-50% improvement per
RisingWavebenchmarks) - Best when: state fits in memory, CPU-bound workloads
