Variants

Unpartitioned

No partitioning — data is not distributed across partitions.

Hash

Hash-based partitioning on named key columns.

Fields

keys: Vec<String>

Column names used as hash keys.

buckets: u32

Number of output buckets.

RoundRobin

Round-robin distribution across N buckets.

Number of output buckets.

Broadcast

Broadcast — replicate to all downstream partitions.

Range

E2.4: Range-based partitioning using sampled sort key boundaries.

Rows whose sort key falls in [boundaries[i-1], boundaries[i]) go to partition i. Used by GlobalSort / SortMergeJoin pipelines.

Fields

keys: Vec<(String, bool)>

Sort key columns (each (column, ascending)).

boundaries: Vec<String>

Sampled boundary values (serialised as JSON strings). There are buckets - 1 boundaries for buckets output partitions.

buckets: u32

Number of output partitions.
