Classification of the compatibility relationship between two protocol version endpoints.

Variants§

§

FullyCompatible

Both peers run the identical version — full feature parity guaranteed.

§

BackwardCompatible

The remote peer is older than us but at or above the minimum floor. We adapt downward to serve them.

§

ForwardCompatible

The remote peer is newer than us. We can still communicate using our own (older) feature set, but some of their features will be unavailable.

§

Incompatible

The remote version is below our min_compatible floor. Communication is not safe and negotiation should be rejected.
