A key press delivered by subscription.

A modifier key on its own, such as Alt, arrives as an event with no modifiers when it is released, and only if nothing else was pressed while it was held. So Alt followed by Up is one Alt+ArrowUp press, while Alt pressed and released alone is a lone Alt.
