How pinned bytes are kept resident.

Variants

Mlock

mlock the mmap pages in place — zero-copy, but requires RLIMIT_MEMLOCK headroom (containers often need CAP_IPC_LOCK or an explicit ulimit). Failures are logged and counted, never fatal.

Copy

Copy the section to the heap — no permissions needed, duplicates the bytes. Immune to page-cache eviction (production runs swapless).
