Metered

Struct Metered

Source
pub struct Metered<S> { /* private fields */ }
Expand description

The wire meter: an AsyncRead + AsyncWrite that charges its AdmissionGuard for every byte that crosses it.

This is the other half of cost-based admission. OpClass::admission_bytes is what an operation reserves before anybody knows how big it is; this is how the ledger finds out. It wraps the same duplex the transport was already given, so there is no second copy of the bytes and no second place where a transfer’s size is known.

Both directions are metered through one counter: a push’s cost is the pack coming in and a clone’s is the pack going out, and the ledger does not care which way a byte was travelling when it made the server hold something.

Zero cost when it is not doing anything: AdmissionGuard::reserve_more returns on an integer comparison until a whole WIRE_RESERVE_STEP has gone by.
