Why a name is tombstoned. The two cases are NOT the same and must never be collapsed.

Variants

Deleted

A soft delete. The bytes are being HELD, on purpose, until purge_after_unix_ms. repo undelete puts the repository back.

ReclaimFailed

A reclaim that FAILED (2026-08-30). The bytes are OWED, not held: a remove_dir_all did not work and the name is fenced off until repo delete is run again and succeeds. There is nothing to undelete — the operator asked for the bytes to go.
