One line of code, identified by its number.

A line number is a line’s business identity in a file: it survives the view scrolling, and it is what a diagnostic and a review comment already point at. It is not the row’s position in whatever slice the caller passed, which is why a view of lines 400 to 450 numbers them 400 to 450.
