pub enum ScrollDecelerationRate {
Normal,
Fast,
}Expand description
How fast a fling’s momentum is taken away — the bouncing family’s second deceleration profile.
It is chosen by what is doing the scrolling, not by how fast. A finger throws a surface and lets go of it; a trackpad or a wheel is a hand resting on a device that reports motion, and the two want different endings. So this is a property of the physics a scrollable is built with — settled once, from the platform — and not something recomputed per fling.
Variants§
Normal
A finger’s. What a touch screen expects, and the default.
Fast
A trackpad’s or a wheel’s — what desktop software expects from a pointing device more precise than a fingertip.
Four things differ, not one: the fling carries a constant deceleration so that it actually stops rather than coasting to a halt at infinity, the rubber band is twice as stiff, a fling may be twice again as fast, and easing back out of an overscroll is not resisted at all — which is a behaviour rather than a number, and the one a reader notices.
