How a path’s fill fades: along a line, or outwards from a centre.
The geometry is in the same space as the path, deliberately, so a fade can be aimed at something real — the edge a glow springs from, the ellipse whose cap is the glow — rather than at whatever bounding box the geometry happens to have.
Variants§
Linear
The fill colour at from, to_color at to, clamped outside that span.
Fields
Radial
The fill colour on the ellipse of radii inner × radii about center,
to_color on the ellipse of radii radii, clamped outside.
A curved edge needs this. A linear fade can only reach zero along a line, so a shape whose boundary curves away from that line stops while the fade is unfinished, and the leftover shows as an edge — which is the very thing a glow must not have (milestone 302).
Fields
Ramp(Arc<GradientRamp>)
Any number of colour stops, along a line or between two circles, in a space of its own — what vector artwork’s gradients are. The primitive’s fill colour multiplies it: white leaves it as it is, and a faded white fades it.
