How a path’s fill fades: along a line, or outwards from a centre.
The geometry is in the same space as the path, deliberately, so a fade can be
aimed at something real — the edge a glow springs from, the ellipse whose cap is
the glow — rather than at whatever bounding box the geometry happens to have.
The fill colour on the ellipse of radii inner × radii about center,
to_color on the ellipse of radii radii, clamped outside.
A curved edge needs this. A linear fade can only reach zero along a line,
so a shape whose boundary curves away from that line stops while the fade is
unfinished, and the leftover shows as an edge — which is the very thing a
glow must not have (milestone 302).
