How this binary got onto the machine. Upgrading is channel-specific — running the wrong updater either does nothing or fights the package manager that owns the file — so firstpass upgrade detects the channel instead of guessing one.

Dist

The shell/powershell installer, which ships its own firstpass-update (dist-workspace.toml sets install-updater = true). This is the only channel we can upgrade in place.

Homebrew

brew install dshakes/tap/firstpass-proxy.

Cargo

cargo install --git.

Python

pip / uv / uvx wheel.

Pipx

pipx-managed install (its own venv, symlinked onto PATH).
