The history in which a database issues record versions.

A version (a document’s __version, or a row’s storage sequence) means something only within the history that issued it. A restore starts a new history: the restored database holds the backup’s records, but versions it goes on to issue can repeat numbers the backed-up database already issued after the backup. A version token names its history, so a token from another history can never fence a write here. A replica bootstrapped from its authority’s snapshot shares the authority’s history.
